Mariinsky Theatre embarks on Japanese tour

The Mariinsky Theatre opened its tour of Japan with a performance of Yevgeni Onegin on November 9. The tour is part of a festival of Russian art to mark the 300th anniversary of Saint Petersburg. According to the theatre's press office, Yevgeni Onegin will also be performed today and tomorrow.

Another famous opera War and Peace by Sergei Prokofiev will also be performed for the Japanese public. Three performances of Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov will complete the operatic tour.

Ballet performances will begin on November 23 and will include Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Nutcracker and also Cinderella.
