Russian opera singer Khvorostovsky presents his new album in New York

People's Artist of Russia, famous opera singer Dmitry Khvorostovsky presented his new album in New York on Thursday. It includes wartime songs and the later songs about the Second World War.

"For me, this album is a tribute of memory and respect to my grandfather who was killed during that war in his first battle and to my grandmother who brought me up in Krasnoyarsk (Siberia)," said the singer in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"These are songs of my childhood, they are the biography of our people. The disk has already appeared in Russia, and it is very important for me that it is the first licensed album with my songs that has appeared in my country for the last thirteen years. Now it will appear in the United States, and I hope that it will find its listeners here too," added the singer.

At the presentation of this album, the Americans opened a new Khvorostovsky for themselves. Up to that time they knew him only as an opera singer who successfully performed the part of Jermon in Verdi's "La Traviatta" in the Metropolitan Opera. The enthusiastic applause to the singer after he sang "Moya Moskva" (My Moscow), "Dorogi" (Roads) and "Pesni O Moyei Dalyokoi Rodine" (Songs of My Far Away Homeland) showed that the album will find its listeners not only with the Russian speaking audiences.
