Kaliningrad to host first international oceanography congress in Russia

The final preparations for the international oceanography congress are being completed in the Kaliningrad World Ocean Museum. The museum's information department told Rosbalt that the congress opens today.

In the main hall of the museum, which was built specially for the beginning of the event, decorations are being completed and new expositions are being arranged. A large panel hangs from one wall of the hall, showing the history of ocean life. A wall painting is devoted to the shores of the Baltic Sea and is located under the cupola of the building, where a lighthouse is installed, which was turned on September 7. In the future the lighthouse will be turned on for holidays and especially important events.

One of the museum's expositions is the scientific research ship Vityaz - a regularly updated permanent exposition, and also plankton and geologic laboratories. Participants and guests of the congress will be quartered in the cabin rooms of the Vityaz and Kosmonavt Viktor Patsaev. A part of the room has been allocated to the film crew for TV program Klub Kinoputeshestvennikov and Kultura TV channel, which will prepare special programs about the work of the international forum.
