The Days of the Northern Peoples of Russia and Canada opened in Novosibirsk

Within the framework of the Russian-Canadian programme "Exchanging Experience in Governing Northern Territories," the Days of the Northern Peoples of Russia and Canada opened on Tuesday in Novosibirsk.

As RIA Novosti was told in the district information centre Sibir, the Russian-Canadian programme has being implemented in the Siberian Federal District since 2001. Its main partners are the apparatus of the plenipotentiary representative of the Russian President in the Northern Federal District and the Canadian Ministry of Indian Affairs and Northern Canada Development.

In the context of the Days of the Northern Peoples it has been planned to hold seminars - Effective Strategies of Marketing of the Arts and Handicrafts of the Indigenous Peoples of the North" and "The Role of Local Corporations of Economic Development in the Marketing of Applied Arts and Handicrafts of the Peoples of the North." Apart from that, the all-Siberian exhibition "The Fresh Art of Siberia," which opened on September 2, for the first time displays the art of Canadian aborigines.

The scientific and cultural programme of the Days of the Northern Peoples have been prepared by the Association of the Indigenous Small Ethnic Groups of the North, Siberia and the Russian Far East, the Institute of the Economy and the Organisation of Industrial Production, and the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
