Provincial Russian theater brings Chekhov to Rome

The Maxim Gorky Drama Theater based in Samara, a Russian city 800 kilometers southeast of Moscow, has come to Rome for two guest performances.

The Russian company appears tonight and tomorrow night at Rome's Fontanone Theater to show a production of Anton Chekhov's "Dushechka" ("The Darling"). The new stage version of this well-known story has been put on by directors Alexander Obraztsov and Georgy Vasiliev and the set has been designed by Vladimir Firer. The show will run in the Russian language, with Italian subtitles.

The Gorky company's guest performances have been arranged with the help of the Russian Embassy to Italy, and will be given under the patronage of Rome City Hall.
