Parade or retro trams and trolley buses in St. Petersburg

On Wednesday, Petersburg, or the Russian northern capital as it is sometimes called romantically, has hosted a parade of old trams and trolley buses.

One of the most up-to-date trams, LVS-97, opened up the parade, the St. Petersburg governor's press service reported.

It was followed by the city's oldest tram: the very tram built by a British company introduced horse-drawn trams in Petersburg in 1907. The first Soviet steel tram, MS, and the legendary American LM-33 built in the 1930s went next.

Post-war trams, the so-called elephants of 1947 and 1949 and the stylish LM-57 also featured in the parade. The "aquarium" type of trams built in the late 1960s-early 1970s was the next in the column.

The LM-99 tram, the latest machine built in Petersburg, brought up the rear.

Citizens could ride in retro trams free of charge. The trams, which took part in the parade, can carry some 1,500 passengers, the press service added.
