Scandinavian bikers welcome locals in St. Petersburg

Scandinavian bikers taking part in the 'Elcoteq MC Race on the Kings Road' arrived in St. Petersburg yesterday. The bikers drove along Nevsky Prospekt to Palace Square, where the public was free to chat to the 'motorized Vikings' on their Harley Davidsons. The group was joined by Russian motorbike enthusiasts, taking its number to about 50.

The 'Elcoteq MC Race on the Kings Road' race, which began yesterday at the Russian Embassy in Helsinki, finished on Palace Square at 20.00 last night. 35 Scandinavian businessmen and cultural figures made the journey along the King's Road - the ancient road from Oslo via Stockholm and Helsinki to St. Petersburg - on their motorbikes and arrived in St. Petersburg to congratulate its citizens on the town's 300th anniversary. Yesterday, they handed Governor Vladimir Yakovlev a scroll with congratulations from the mayors of towns they visited along the way.
