Daghestan's craftsmen to make unique gift to Petersburg

Daghestan's Untsukul arts factory has made a unique present to mark St Petersburg's tercentenary, said the Daghestani State Council's press service.

This is a one-metre-high wooden carved jar enchased with German silver. The enchasing technique is unique, it has never been applied anywhere but Daghestan. The Untsukul tracery interweaves the coats of arms of Petersburg, Russia and Daghestan.

Four craftsmen of the factory, including Vugamali Magomedaliyev, an enchaser, had chosen a wild pear tree as the material. The stem was being dried for as long as 3 years. Then, for 6 months the craftsmen were laying the German silver ornamental patterns and the coats of arms, polishing the jar being determined to make yet another masterpiece of Untsukul.

The republican delegation to Petersburg's festivities will offer the jar along with other presents from the Daghestani people.
