One of the largest "Russian sales" completed successfully at Sotheby's

One of the largest in the last years "Russian sales" has successfully completed at Sotheby's auction house in London.

The most vehement strife concerned several lots belonging to the family of the famous Russian singer, Fyodor Shalyapin. So, one of the copies of the painting "Vision to Youth Bartholomew" by Mikhail Nesterov and kept in the Tretyakov Gallery was sold for 450 thousand pound sterling, while a copy of a famous painting by Boris Kustodiyev kept in the Tula Art Museum became a record-breaker of the sales, as it was sold for 750 thousand pound sterling.

The painting "Bathing Boys" by Natalia Goncharova also sold by auction among the items of the Shalyapins' collection became another unexpected sensation being sold for 410 thousand pound sterling.

The painting by Filip Malyavin "Naked woman in flowered hat" was sold for 190 thousand pound sterling, which is several times more that its assessed value.

Two pictures by the famous Russian painter of seascapes Ivan Aivazovsky were traditionally sold at best at the auction.

As usual, canvases by Kanstantin Makovsky were also a success. Both paintings put up for sale were sold at a price exceeding their assessed value by three-four times.
