Singer Kazarnovskaya to spend concert earnings on monument to Kolka glacier victims

The money earned from Lyubov Kazarnovskaya's Monday concert at the musical theater of Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia will be spent on a monument to the victims of the Kolka glacier.

Kazarnovskaya, the famous opera singer and a People's Artist of Russia, has confessed to RIA Novosti that she had been impressed by "the scale of the calamity and the courage displayed by people who keep searching for their friends and relatives under a layer of ice 70 meters thick eight months after the tragedy." Kazarnovskaya's only concert in Vladikavkaz was sold out a week ago. After the show, the singer will be presented with a folk costume a Vladikavkaz-based dressmaker had made specially for her.

Descending on the Karmadon Gorge on September 20, 2002, the glacier killed 125 people, including the famous filmmaker Sergei Bodrov Jr.'s film unit.
