Russia's drifting station North Pole-32 to start work in late May

The Russian drifting ice station North Pole-32 will begin research work at the end of May.

Now the station goes on building up the camp, assembling equipment and receiving transport planes, its research chief Vladimir Sokolov has told a RIA Novosti correspondent.

Over 60 tonnes of cargoes, including essential equipment, have already been brought in to the ice floe. It remains to deliver between 55 and 60 tonnes of fuel.

Cargo delivery and camp deployment are being prevented by complicated weather conditions - powerful cyclones with a wind speed reaching 27 meters per second are passing above the North Pole-32 area.

According to forecasts, this weather will prevail during a month but scientific observations can already be started in the end of May, Vladimir Sokolov said. First, the weather monitoring complex will start work, to be followed by oceanic and ice-monitoring research work.
