Second International Exhibition of Arms And Military Hardware MILEX'2003 to Open in Minsk

As many as 130 enterprises and organisations from Belarus, the CIS countries (Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and Moldova) and Eastern Europe (Poland and Slovenia) will take part in the 2nd International Exhibition of Arms and Military Hardware MILEX'2003 which is to open in Minsk on Tuesday.

As officials of the organising committee of the exhibition said, listed among the main exhibitors are the leading Russian defensive enterprises, among them those manufacturing the most up-to-date arms and military hardware in close cooperation with the main Belarussian producers.

For instance, the modernised ground-to-air missile system S-125 or Pechora-2M, developed by the Defensive Systems Russian-Belarussian consortium on the basis of the latest technologies and on a modern electronic base, will be offered to visitors' attention. As experts say, the carried out modernisation made it possible to increase the zone of hitting air targets in its range and altitude up to 32-36 and 20 kilometres respectively, and to reduce the nomenclature of spare parts by 90 per cent (from 3,000 to 300); the built-in TV channel for night fire in the passive regime makes it practically impossible to detect the system with the use of technical reconnaissance means of the enemy.

The T-90S missile-cannon tank, fitted out with a TV sight of Russian-Belarussian-French make, is another example of successful multilateral cooperation.

An International Conference on Military-Technical Problems and the Problems of Defence and Security and on the Use of Dual-Use Technologies will be held within the bounds of the exhibition.

The show will end on Friday, May 16.
