Laser Show to Take Place on River Neva as Part of Tricentenary of Saint Petersburg

A laser show by Hiro Yamagata to celebrate the tricentenary of Saint Petersburg will take place on the river Neva on May 27, 30 and 31. A Rosbalt correspondent was informed by the press office of MDM-Bank, which is helping to finance the show, that Mr Yamagata is planning to illuminate the three main bridges in front of the Winter Palace as well as the surface of the river itself. The facade of the Winter Palace will also be used in the laser show. It will act as a screen which will display different laser images. Saint Petersburg will become the first Russian city to get acquainted with the art of Mr Yamagata.

Mr Yamagata was born in Japan in 1948. He studied physics at university but left Japan at the age of 24. He has spent most of his life in Europe and the US and is now famous the world over for his light shows. His exhibitions and laser shows with advanced technology and contemporary computer technology have been seen in the largest cities of the world: Vienna, London, Rome, Munich, Stockholm, Paris, Mexico, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York and others. The most impressive of Mr Yamagata's shows was his illumination of the Eiffel Tower to celebrate its centenary.

The organisers of the show are Moscow company Postmodern Theatre and American producer Bob Van Ronkel.
