Spaceship with Russian-U.S. Team Reaches Calculated Orbit

The Russian spaceship Soyuz TMA-2 with a new International Space Station crew on board has taken off from Kazakhstan's Baikonur launching site at 7:54 a.m. Moscow time on Saturday and reached the calculated orbit nine minutes later, reported the press service of the Russian Space Force, who are tracking the flight.

The tethering of Soyuz to the ISS is scheduled to take place in the morning of April 28.

The cosmonaut team consists of Russia's Yury Malenchenko and the United States' Edward Lu, who will replace the sixth long-term expedition in the persons of Russia's Nikolai Budarin and the States' Donald Pettit and Kenneth Bowersox. The new crew will spend six months on board the ISS, conducting 15 scientific experiments dealing with biology, medicine and geophysics.
