Russian engineers create genuine artificial intelligence

Russia's new development - a program called Eugene, a simulation of human intelligence, passed the "Turing test" and was recognized genuine artificial intelligence, the website of the British University of Reading.

Eugene is a chat bot that acts as 13-year-old English-speaking boy from Odessa, Eugene Gustman. The program was created by Russian engineer Vladimir Veselov, who now works in the U.S., and Russia-based Ukrainian Eugene Demchenko.

The test to distinguish human from artificial intelligence was proposed by British scientist Alan Turing in 1950. "Within the scope of the test, judging panel communicates through text interface with proposed program and people. If in 30 percent cases the computer convinces the judge of its human nature, the test is considered passed.

In an annual review of such programs at the University of Reading, platforms of artificial intelligence participated, and only "Eugene Gustman" managed to pass the test. Previously, the program has already participated in the contest, but lied to reach the bar of 30%.

Last year, Britain's Queen Elizabeth II posthumously pardoned Alan Turing, who was convicted in 1952 for homosexuality. He committed suicide two years later. The scientist is considered one of the most prominent experts in the field of mathematical logic and cryptography.
