Novosibirsk electric vacuum plant Soyuz has developed a new technology for the military to produce armor materials on the basis of boron carbide nano-powder.

Super-solid ceramic plates produced with the use of the new technology increase protection five or six times, while reducing the weight of body armor four times.

The cost of finished nano-armor will be 15-25 percent lower than that of existing protection systems. The new armor can also be used in the construction of aircraft. The development of the technology and its implementation, which is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2015, has been funded from the federal budget - 145 million rubles.
