Blue Moon Isn't Really Blue

For the first time in almost 20 years, a "blue moon" will appear on New Year's Eve worldwide.

If the skies are clear, revelers looking up at midnight will get an eyeful of the second full moon of the month—commonly called a blue moon. The last time a blue moon appeared on New Year's Eve was in 1990, and it won't happen again until 2028.

A blue moon isn't actually blue—as commonly defined, the name reflects the relative rarity of two full moons in a month and is linked to the saying "once in a blue moon."

With this New Year's Eve blue moon, "there is nothing scientific about it, and it has no astronomical significance," said Mark Hammergren, a staff astronomer at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, Illinois.

"But I believe it does give us some insight into history and makes us think of how our calendar system has derived from motions of objects in the sky," The National Geographic reports.

It was also reported, even more rare than one blue moon is two blue moons in one year. This is thought to happen once every 19 years, almost always during January and March. This is because of the short month, February that occurs between them. The last time a double blue moon occurred was in 1999.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac traditionally all full moons were named by the Native American tribes who lived in the area that is now the northern and eastern United States. December’s full moon is called Full Cold Moon, because “this is the month when the moon fastens its grip and the nights become long and dark,” according to the Farmer’s Almanac. It is also known as Long Nights Moon to some Native American tribes.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac uses the moon to predict weather and the best days to do certain activities. According to the predictions, coming up in January are the best days to entertain, Jan. 2 and 3. the best days to start a diet and/or quit smoking, Jan. 4 and 8, Suburbanite reports.

Meanwhile, as it is widely known, we tend to be more emotionally expressive during a Full Moon. This emotional and sometimes unstable environment occurs because there is change in the electromagnetic energy that affects us mentally and neurologically. There will be some stress as blockages will begin to crumble and then there will be a feeling of freedom. The good news is that creative and artistic qualities will be discovered as you let go of beliefs that don’t correspond with your current reality!

As many spiritual fugures expect, this is the most important New Years Eve we have ever been gifted in a long time. It asks us to ‘flash forward’ into the next 2 years to see what we can see. No matter how much you do not believe prophecy from time and earth, it will still affect your energy field and your choices, Global Surf News reports.
