Concerned over cancer? Visit "Relay For Life"

The American Cancer Society is highly concerned over the cancer death rates and the ways to fight against it. It tries to attract more attention to this problem by a lot of campaigns and enlightenment. This time it offers “Relay For Life.”

Relay For Life (often shortened to Relay) is an overnight event designed to spread awareness of cancer prevention, treatments and cures, celebrate survivorship and raise money for research to find more cures for cancer. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

Relay has been exported to the online virtual world Second Life. Teams spend the months leading up to the virtual relay itself fundraising; in 2007 they collectively raised over $118,000 USD.

Relay For Life volunteers worldwide are able to share ideas with each other on the support site RelayForLife.org.
