Siemens shows its OpenScape Unified Communications Server

The German leading company, Siemens, gains ground in the field of software. One of its largest divisions, Siemens Enterprise Communications, showed Monday a new platform for unified communications - OpenScape Unified Communications Server.

OpenScape will

- ease migration of businesses to a single communications environment creating a framework with data, instant messaging, video, voice and so on.

This means that the company is no longer in need of overhead and the employees in the hardware business model. This may explain the job cuts promised earlier. Another handicap is the price and the complexity of implementation and integration to have this server work well.

- help evaluate, build, deliver, and manage multi-media, devices, and the network environment.

- make it possible to integrate hardware and applications from any vendor.

- support a suite of new UC applications from Siemens itself, including the renamed OpenScape Voice Application (formerly known as HiPath 8000), OpenScape UC Application, and OpenScape Video.

This system can work well on desktop computers and in conference rooms.

OpenScape will be shown at the big CeBit electronics convention in Hanover, Germany this week. The date for sale is set for April 30.
