FDA approves new ProFlu+ test

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved a unique and very effective test for four common respiratory viruses. ProFlu+ test outruns other tests that are either fast but not as accurate or accurate but not as fast.

This test allows several tests done using the same sample to detect influenza A virus, influenza B virus, and respiratory syncytial virus A and B (RSV). These viruses can cause influenza, an infection of the airways called bronchiolitis, and pneumonia. All compile the leading causes of lower respiratory tract infections.

With the help of molecular biology process ProFlu+ helps to isolate and amplify viral genetic material present in secretions taken from the back of the throat in patients.
