Gazprom to invest US$1.5 billion in Uzbek projects

Uzbek president &to=http://english.pravda.ru/cis/2002/03/13/26962.html' target=_blank>Islam Karimov said Tuesday that Russian natural gas giant Gazprom planned to invest US$1.5 billion (Ђ1.2 billion) in gas projects in the resource-rich Central Asian state.

Karimov was speaking before a summit in St. Petersburg of the Eurasian Economic Community _ a grouping of several ex-Soviet countries that aims to restore economic ties lost after the 1991 Soviet collapse.

"Major communication and energy projects will be legally drawn up within the Eurasian Economic Community summit," Karimov said in televised comments.
