Arab League head visits Damascus

Visiting Arab League leader, Amr Moussa, has had talks in Damascus with president Bashar al-Assad during which he stressed the importance of ensuring greater solidarity for Syria.

Talks covered the current developments in Syria, Iraq and the Palestinian territories and international pressure on Syria after the UN resolution urging it to cooperate fully in the probe into the assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.

UN secretary general Kofi Annan, speaking in Cairo on Tuesday, said that "it was preferable to hear the depositions of the Syrians on the Hariri murder in Beirut".

"The two sides discussed the latest political developments at Arab, Syrian, Iraqi and Palestinian levels," the statement from the Presidential Palace said.

Amr Moussa arrived in Damascus on Tuesday night and conferred with foreign minister Farouk Al-Sharaa before meeting the president, AKI reports.
