Vote count shows Donald Tusk won in Polish presidential election

The final vote count in Poland's presidential election confirmed that the pro-business lawmaker Donald Tusk won more votes than conservative Warsaw Mayor Lech Kaczynski, but fell short of the outright majority needed to win in a single round, the state electoral commission said Monday.

According to the final count from Sunday's vote, Tusk, the deputy parliament speaker, had 36.3 percent of the votes while Kaczynski had 33.1 percent. The result, giving no candidate more than 50 percent, forces a second round on Oct. 23.
