Russian nuclear reactor shut down automatically after short circuit

A nuclear reactor at an institute in Russia's Ural Mountains region shut down automatically due to a short circuit, the Emergency Situations Ministry said Wednesday.

The shutdown occurred Tuesday in a 15-megawatt research reactor at the Institute of Reactor Materials in the city of Zarechny, about 1,500 kilometers (900 miles) east of Moscow, said ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov. The shutdown did not result in any increased radiation or danger to anyone, Beltsov said, reports the AP.
