Lithuanian air force chief fired after incident with Russian jet

Lithuania's air force commander has been fired in connection with the investigation of the crash of a Russian military plane, Defense Minister Gediminas Kirkilas told.

Col. Jonas Marcinkus was criticized by Lithuanian media for reacting too slowly to the Sept. 15 crash of the Russian Su-27 fighter bomber. Kirkilas said he could not elaborate on why he fired Marcinkus, except that it was connected to the crash, the AP reports.
