China backs Russia's proposal to hold session of parliament speakers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states

China backed Russia's proposal to hold a session of parliament speakers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states, the speaker of the Russian parliament's upper chamber said Sunday.

"I propose holding a session of speakers during the St. Petersburg Economic Forum next year," Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov said after a meeting with Chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress Wu Bangguo.

Mironov and Wu Bangguo signed the regulations of the joint inter-parliamentary commission Sunday. The commission will comprise representatives of the Russian Federation Council and the Chinese National People's Congress and will tackle the legislative basis of inter-regional cooperation, lawmaking experience exchange and inter-parliamentary interaction, RIA Novosti reports.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization includes Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
