Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Mexico on an official visit

Lavrov plans to hold talks with his Mexican counterpart Luis Ernesto Derbez. Also, Mexican President Vicente Fox is expected to receive the Russian minister.

During the talks, the sides will discuss key issues of the world policy, but first of all the results of the U.N. jubilee session and the World Summit 2005.

The sides will also focus their attention on the strengthening of the U.N. role in maintaining global peace, international security and stability, as well as on the ways of reforming the U.N. and its Security Council.

The two foreign ministers will exchange opinions on the main trends of world development, including in the context of the new global threats and challenges.

During the forthcoming meetings, Lavrov and Debrez will pay especial attention to Russian-Mexican trade and economic relations. The parties believe that the main mutual efforts of government organizations and businesses in the two countries should be aimed at settling the problems that still hamper development of the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, transportation, investment, tourism, and other vital spheres.

Lavrov also plans to discuss cooperation in culture, science and education, Itar-Tass reported.
