Petroleos Mexicanos cracks down on cheating gas stations

Mexican state oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos said Thursday it will revoke the franchises of service stations caught selling stolen, adulterated or short-measured fuel.

A recent study conducted by Mexican consumer protection agency Profeco found abnormalities in 26 samples taken from 100 different gas stations. There are 6,940 Pemex-branded service stations in Mexico.

Pemex said in a news release that it would assemble its own mobile laboratories to monitor the quality of fuel sold at Pemex service stations. The company said, that Pemex can't, and won't, sit still as this behavior affects not only its patrimony, but that of all Mexicans, day after day.
