U.S. finally agreed to accept Russian aid

US agreed to accept aid from Russia in relation to Katrina hurricane, Russian Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Viktor Beltsov reported to Interfax on Monday.

“Top-priority cargo that will be sent to the victims of natural disaster was determined together with American authorities”, Beltsov said.

According to Beltsov Russian aid will be delivered to the USA by three flights of transport aircrafts Il-76 of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.

The spokesman said that the Russian aid to the US would mainly consist of generators, individual food rations, multi-seat tents, blankets, drinking water and bandaging materials.

“The dates of the delivery will be reported additionally”, Beltsov said.

The US decided to accept aid from foreign countries for eliminating the consequences of Katrina hurricane on 1 September. The Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice took this decision after consulting the White House. This was reported by the National Security Council Spokesman Sean McCormack.

“No offer than can help alleviate the suffering of the people in the afflicted areas will be refused”, McCormack said.

According to the spokesman for the US Department of State offers of aid were received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Great Britain, Holland, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Columbia, Dominican Republic, Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel and United Arab Emirates.
