Russian to hand over Bosnian Serb to U.N.

Russian prosecutors are preparing to hand over a Bosnian Serb sought by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague, an official said Wednesday.

Dragan Zelenovic was arrested in the Khanty-Mansiisk region of Siberia last week, said Lyudmila Nesterova, a spokeswoman for the regional prosecutor's office.

Zelenovic, a former military police officer, has been indicted by the tribunal for alleged crimes against humanity during the 1992 Bosnian Serb assault on the Bosnian town of Foca, the AP reports.

Documents concerning Zelenovic were sent Wednesday to the office of Russia's chief prosecutor in Moscow, the official told The Associated Press by telephone.

"We have sent the general prosecutor's office a report concluding that there are no obstacles to the handover of Zelenovic," she said.

The prosecution official did not specify when and where the war crimes suspect would be transferred and officials at the general prosecutor's office in Moscow were not available for comment.
