Ranking militant leaders killed in Chechnya and Dagestan

The leader of militant ring Amanat, Alash Daudov, and a notorious international terrorist and Kuwaiti national named Jarah have been killed during a special operation, RIA Novosti was told by the Regional Operative Headquarters (ROH) running the counter terrorist operation in the North Caucasus.

Daudov was eliminated in the capital of Chechnya, Grozny. His cell had been busy with staging large-scale terrorist attacks timed with the Victory Day on May 9 and involving virulent poisons. "An explosive device's diagram and topographic maps were found on the militant killed," ROH spokesman Ilya Shabalkin told RIA Novosti.

He said a foreign mercenary, Jordan's native Abu Mujaid, was the mastermind of the poison terrorist attacks planned.

According to ROH, Daudov had his hand in the Dubrovka terrorist attack in Moscow in October 2002, which resulted in over 900 spectators and actors of the Nord-Ost musical taken hostage. The hostage release operation resulted in 40 terrorists killed and 130 hostages dead.

Daudov participated in militant raids on Ingushetia in June 2004 and on Grozny in August 2004. He also was involved in preparations for the terrorist attack on Beslan in September 2004, which led to a whole school taken hostage and 330 hostages, 186 of whom were children, killed as a result.

Another international terrorist, 30-year-old Jarah, was killed in Dagestan on Tuesday. He was an Al-Qaeda emissary in Chechnya and involved in numerous terrorist attacks there, the ROH spokesman told RIA Novosti.

Jarah also was closely linked to "terrorist organizations Muslim Brotherhood ad Al-Kharamein whose functionaries still remain in the North Caucasus,", Shabalkin said.

Jarah and another militant, who accompanied him and has not been identified yet, were killed in a special operation in the Khasavyurt District of Dagestan.

It has been established that Jarah was given terrorist training by the Taliban in Afghanistan and participated in many terrorist attacks along with Shamil Basayev and Aslan Maskhadov.
