Law enforcers arrested the so-called emir of the Naursky Distrcit, Roman Tolkhadov.
According to Chechnya's law enforcement agencies, the operation was conducted in the Sunzha District.
Tolkhadov is a resident of the Mekenskaya village in the Naursky District.
The detainee showed an arms cache in the Assinovskaya village of the Sunzhensky District.
There were a Stechkin pistol with three spare clips and two makeshift hand grenades in the cache that was in a boiler house of an abandoned building, the officer said.
In addition, a police search operation in a forest near Shaami-Yurt in the Achkhoy-Martan District resulted in eliminating a cache of arms and explosives.
Voluntary surrender of weapons has been on the rise in Chechnya lately.
Those who surrender guns and ammunition shall be paid for them under a resolution of the Chechen government dated April 6, 2004.
According to the Chechen Interior Ministry, 126,000 rubles have been paid for weapons surrendered since the beginning of the year. Over 40 cases of arms surrender to law enforcers have been registered.
