State Duma approves beer restrictions

A bill on imposing restrictions on the retail sale of beer and beverages produced with it use, as well as beer drinking passed the Russian State Duma on its third and final reading. 411 lawmakers supported new restrictions and one deputy opposed them, as one more deputy abstained. Restrictions prohibit the drinking and sale of beer at educational, medical and preschool institutions and nearby territories. The sale of beer to young persons is also prohibited. Starting April 1, 2005, beer drinking on streets, stadiums, in squares and parks as well as on municipal transport will be prohibited. The law will coma into effect 30 days after its publication. Restrictions on drinking beer will come into effect, as mentioned above, starting April 1, 2005.
