A year after the start of the military operation in Iraq, the Public Opinion Fund has polled Russians so as to learnt what they think of it.
The Fund says that Russians are actually unanimous that, beginning a war in Iraq, the Americans have been wrong - 81 percent of the polled. Five percent of respondents are sure the Americans are right. The rest do not know what to say.
In the opinion of 48 percent of the polled, resistance to the American military in Iraq will increase with time. Twenty percent believe it will remain at the present level and nine percent say it will subside.
Forty two percent of respondents predict that the American forces will stay in Iraq for a long time, while 25 think they will go soon.
Asked how the operation affects the Americans' image, 67 percent said it would be marred. 14 percent believe it has not changed and only four percent think it has even grown.
The national poll of municipal and rural populations has been held in 100 populated places in 44 regions and districts in 2003 September and December and the end of March 2004.
