Russia insists on political resolution of Kosovo conflict

Russia insist on using all possible opportunities to resolve the conflict in Kosovo politically, Alexander Yakovenko, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, declared. His statement marks the fifth anniversary of NATO bombings in the Balkans. NATO`s aggressive actions were not approved by the UN Security Council.

Kosovo still is an open wound for Serbia and Montenegro. As yet we cannot find any long-term measures to resolve the conflict. NATO-led international forces, which are responsible for security and reign of law in the region, tried to convince us that living in Kosovo would be consistent with European standards. But we see medieval barbarity, as tens of people were killed and their houses were burned to ashes, Yakovenko added.

Yakovenko believes that the international community should stick to UN resolution 1244, which is the sole legal basis for solving the crisis.
