Russians associate Saint Petersburg with Hermitage Museum, Neva River and Peter I

Russians associate Saint Petersburg with the State Hermitage Museum, Neva River and Peter the Great, said Saint Petersburg sociologist Dmitry Gavra in regard to a recent survey conducted by the Zolotaya Desyatka fund.

When asked to give three free associations they had with Saint Petersburg, respondents gave answers like the Hermitage Museum, Neva River, Peter the Great, White Nights, bridges, beauty, Petrodvorets, blockade, cruiser Aurora and Nevsky Prospekt.

The southern federal district, however, answered somewhat differently. Respondents mentioned palaces, revolution, Neva River, Winter Palace, White Nights and culture. In regard to common characteristics of Saint Petersburgers, 61.11% of respondents said culture, 22.22% said kindness, 2.78% said punctuality, attentiveness, pomposity, education and friendliness. Muscovites most often answered that residents of Saint Petersburg were pompous.
