Agriculture Minister: Russia might stop buying US poultry

Russia might stop buying US poultry if information about the spread of Avian flu or bird flu in birds in Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York is validated, said Agriculture Minister Alexey Gordeyev yesterday. He added that at the present time he has no information confirming the spread of the flu.

At the present time, Russia has stopped imports of chicken meat and eggs from Delaware as well as 11 countries in East Asia. Today the US Agriculture Department said that rumors about the reoccurrence of bird flu have not been confirmed. Samples have been sent from farms outside Lancaster, Delaware for analysis at a national laboratory.
