Only 20% of Russians with heart problems get necessary medical help

Only 20% of Russians with heart problems get necessary medical assistance, according to Bakulev Heart Surgery Center in Moscow Director Amiran Revishvili. He added that 56% of deaths in Russia are heart-related. Once more, 50% of these cases happen suddenly.

Revishvili said that only 100 out of a necessary 400 electrocardiostimular operations are done each year in Russia. 'We are in next to last place in terms of conducting such operations - only Georgia is behind us,' he said.

His remarks were part of the 6th International Slavic Congress Cardiostim which ended in Saint Petersburg on February 7. Approximately 800 physicians and medical specialists from Russia, CIS, Baltic States, Western Europe and US took part.
