Election Commission may register first presidential candidate today

Today the Russian Central Election Commission will consider registering Vladimir Putin as a presidential candidate. On January 23, Putin submitted to the commission the required amount of signatures in his support, and according to law the commission should decide on registering a candidate within 10 days after he submits the signatures.

The incumbent president has collected a total of 2.5m signatures in his support and may become the first candidate to be registered for running the upcoming presidential race.
