YUKOS calls meeting of Sibneft board of directors for March 28

The Sibneft board of management has decided to call a shareholders' meeting on March 28, Press Secretary Alexei Firsov has announced. 'The agenda of the meeting includes two questions: the possibility of changing or extending the company charter and the early resignation of the current board of directors and election of a new one,' Mr Firsov said.

On January 13 YUKOS contacted Sibneft demanding that a shareholders' meeting be called on March 28 to change the Sibneft charter and select a new board of directors. 'We consider Sibneft a valuable asset. YUKOS acquired a 92% stake in Sibneft on October 3, 2003,' a company spokesman said.

'We have demanded that an assembly of Sibneft directors is held in order to ensure that the agreement between the two companies' shareholders is maintained,' former YUKOS press secretary Alexander Shadrin explained.
