Putin: Direct talk with citizens is real business, not show business

Every scrap of information sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin by the direct radio and television hookup that was set up for him December 14 as well as that sent to him during his time on the air yesterday will be studied and put to practical use. Putin made the vow to journalists gathered in the Kremlin after winding up his session on air. Information drawn from the telephone calls, direct exchanges and Internet messages is very important for understanding the realities facing the country, the president said.

He called his direct contacts with citizens both very useful and necessary, especially in view of the transitional condition of the economy and uncertainties about government at a time when the political system is in flux. The information will help agencies of government adjust their policies. Putin noted that yesterday's event had brought to light several very urgent matters.
