Oil extraction season ends at Sakhalin "Vityaz" complex

The fifth oil extraction season at the "Vityaz" production complex has been completed on the Sakhalin Island because of the forecasted ice approach from the north.

The press service of the Sakhalin Energy company, which is the operator of a Sakhalin-2 project, said this to RIA Novosti on Wednesday. Oil has been extracted at the "Vityaz" complex since July 1999.

The "Vityaz" production and extraction complex, which comprises a Molikpak sea platform, moorage and the Okha floating oil storage, is located on the Astokh site of the Piltun-Astokh deposit on the Sakhalin's shelf. The Molikpak platform is the first sea extracting platform in Russia.

Now, the Okha floating oil storage is going to Japan to deliver the last batch of cargo of the 2003 production season.

A total of 10.3 million barrels of oil were extracted in 2003. Oil has been shipped to the consumers in Japan, China, and Korea. In addition, the Russian oil was for the first time delivered to the Philippines, Taiwan and the western coast of the United States.

In 2002, within the framework of the Sakhalin-2 project, 10.77 million barrels of oil were exported.
