Russian lawmaker on handling Hussein's case

Saddam Hussein should be judged by an international court, Russian Federation Council Sergey Mironov announced. According to Mironov, Hussein should not be judged in accordance with US legislation as he is not US citizen and "has nothing to do with US justice". The official is of the opinion that the capture of Hussein will not improve the situation in Iraq. Illustrating this point, Mironov mentioned terrorist blasts in Iraq after Hussein's arrest. "International terrorism is at ease in the postwar Iraq. I do not approve of Saddam Hussein's regime when blatant violations of human rights were committed, but I should point out there were no acts of international terrorism in Iraq before the war", Mironov said. The official believes the problem of global terrorism should be dealt with jointly and on the basis of international law.
