Russian political expert speaks of danger of rightist, leftist vacuums

President of the Efficient Policy Fund Gleb Pavlovsky has pointed to the danger of the rightist and leftists vacuums in politics that appeared due to the extremely poor performance of the Union of Rightist Forces (SPS), Yabloko and the Communist Party at the elections.

"The situation with the leftist and rightist vacuum in politics is very dangerous, as today anyone can appear, say, on the rightist field and start forming rightist forces," he said at a press conference in RIA Novosti.

Moreover, "this vacuum can be filled with different forces and they will not necessarily be liberal," Pavlovsky emphasized. "They can even be rightist radicals. There can, for example, appear a force that will take the ideas of Glazyev /a leader of the Rodina people's patriotic bloc/ and radicalize them. It is a dangerous situation," he believes.

"Despite everything, voters have formed a moderately conservative Duma, extremists are a minority and thus cannot influence the majority," Pavlovsky pointed out.

At the same time, one of the SPS leaders, Anatoly Chubais, "has preserved his potential", the expert said. Yet head of the UES of Russia "will have to choose, which is more dear to him, the party or the company." "The plausible figure of the leftist wing is Glazyev," Pavlovsky believes. According to him, the Rodina leader "has already started struggle for the Communist electorate". "Sergei Glazyev is after Gennady Zyuganov's still warm chair," the expert concluded.
