Russian election system ready for parliamentary elections

The Russian election system is ready for holding elections to the State Duma scheduled for December 7th. Chairman of the Central Election Commission Alexander Veshnyakov made this conclusion after listening to the reports of heads of election commissions of different levels at the All-Russian conference call on Tuesday.

"The election commissions have done everything they had to," Veshnyakov emphasized.

"Election commissions should pay special attention to work with observers (from parties) who will number at least 500,000 people," he pointed out.

"We should work so that no one could accuse us of doubtful results of the voting," the chairman said.

"The main task of all bodies of executive power is to create normal conditions for completing the Duma election campaign," Deputy Prime Minister Galina Karelova emphasized at the session. She drew special attention to the work of the law-enforcement structures to ensure and protect public order on the day of the elections.

"Communications workers will cope with the task of state importance of providing reliable communication for the election system during the voting and vote counting," Communications Minister Leonid Reiman assured.
