Moscow satisfied with dialogue within Russia-NATO Council

Moscow is satisfied with the quality of the current dialogue within the Russia-NATO Council, spokesman for Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko stated on Tuesday.

"On the whole, we are satisfied with the quality of the current political dialogue in the Russia-NATO Council. Several important positional documents have been agreed upon, or work on them is under way", Yakovenko said.

"Over eighteen months that have passed since the Russia-NATO summit in May 2002 in Rome, the Council has been turned into an effective mechanism of permanent political consultations, working out and adoption of joint decisions, and joint actions, such as it was initially designed," the spokesman for Russia's Foreign Ministry added.

"As a result, Russia-NATO relations have reached a qualitatively new level, which makes for stronger stability and security in the Euro-Atlantic region," Yakovenko said.

"Practical interaction is being built up. Good results have been attained in the spheres of settlement of crises, countering terrorism, non-proliferation, theater missile defense, and emergency civil planning," he added.
