Sibneft stands firm on YUKOS merger halt

The Sibneft press service is not excluding the possibility that the managers of YUKOS 'may still be unaware of the agreement between the stockholders of the two companies to halt their merger.' Ivan Fomin, a representative of the press service, offered this supposition Friday in a conversation with a Rosbalt correspondent.

'I can say again that our announcement of the halt was based on actual statements by the principal stockholders of the two companies; there was such an agreement,' Fomin said. 'Our statement conforms to reality,' he added.

Simon Kukes, management chairman of oil company YUKOS said that he had 'no information on any halt in the transaction.'
