Kremlin speaks on "significant progress" in relations between Russia and Hungary

Sergei Prikhodko, deputy head of Vladimir Putin's administration pointed out to "significant progress" achieved in relations between Russia and Hungary. He made that statement on Saturday in St. Petersburg in the wake of the negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Medgyessy.

Prikhodko stated to journalists that "due to active involvement of the Hungarian prime minister in the process of development of Russian-Hungarian cooperation we are able to state significant progress in the bilateral relations." The deputy head of the Kremlin administration also indicated the lack of political nuances in the Russian -Hungarian dialogue and the lack of "acute problems" in the relations between the two countries. Among such problems he mentioned the issue of outstanding debts of the former USSR to Hungary which was already settled.

According to Prikhodko, the present meeting between Putin and Medgyessy took place in an "atmosphere of interest and benevolence." While talking about bilateral economic cooperation he pointed out that many Hungarian enterprises were developing cooperation with Russia in the high-tech area. The Kremlin representative stated that in its turn Russia was interested in privatization of certain Hungarian enterprises.
