St. Petersburg's Submariners Club celebrates its ninth anniversary

On Saturday, November 29, the St. Petersburg's Submariners Club celebrates its 9th anniversary. More than 500 members and guests will gather at the Kuznetsov Naval Academy for a commemorative meeting.

The club was created in December 1994 on the initiative of submariners from the 3rd Submarine Flotilla of the Northern Fleet. At present, the club has 1,850 members from Russia, the United States, Great Britain, Brazil and Argentina.

The club conducts regular meetings of Russian and foreign submariners and consults all those who are interested in the history of the Navy - from students to researchers and teachers.

The main purpose of the club is to provide social assistance to naval officers and their families. The club directly participated in creation of the memorial to the crew of the Kursk nuclear submarine at the Serafimovskoye cemetery in St. Petersburg.

The International Association of Submariners has decided to conduct a 2006 Congress of Submariners in St. Petersburg.
