Tver court orders Bolshoi Theatre to reinstate ballerina Anastasia Volochkova

The Tver court of Moscow has ruled in favour of ballerina Anastasia Volochkova and ordered that the Bolshoi Theatre reinstate her in their company. As Rosbalt was informed by the court's PR department, General Director of the Bolshoi Theatre Anatoly Iksanov's decision on September 16 to sack Miss Volochkova has been overruled. The court has also ordered the theatre to pay the ballerina the wages she would have received since being fired in September. During the course of the hearing the court rejected about 10 petitions made by the theatre's lawyer Dmitry Lobachov.

The ballerina herself did not wait for the final verdict as she is setting off on our today. In September the theatre management offered Miss Volochkova just a six-month contract until December 31. Miss Volochkova refused the offer and as a result Mr Iksanov decided to fire her. According to the theatre's press office, when the agreement was proposed 'the ballerina made several demands which would jeopardize the interests of the ballet company of the Bolshoi Theatre.'
